Leaf Cutter Ants

Scientific Name:

Atta cephalotes

Throughout Central and South America

Life Span:

Unknown in the wild.

1-2 years for a worker, over 10 years for a queen in captivity

Social Insect, living in large colonies.

Our Leaf Cutter Ants are busy at work, but because they are a young colony most of the work is done underground in the day and the cutting is done during the night. This is to protect the colony until it has grown large enough to risk being seen.
