Covid 19 Update

With the Government reinstating mandatory Face Coverings, as a fully indoor attraction we will require all vistors to wear a face covering (unless an exemption is held). Effective from Monday 29/11/2021.

Failure to do so will be considered a breach of our health and safety policy and will result in refusal of entry or eviction from the site.

Previous Updates

From Monday the 19th July, with restrictions being lifted, we will once again be able to allow public animal handling in our Bug and Reptile Encounters!

We have been very much looking forward to this point and can't wait to start introducing our visitors to some incredible creatures, changing opinions and maybe facing some fears!

However, although all restrictions are being lifted, cases of covid still continue to rise and we will be keeping many of the our covid precautions in place. We will be keeping our one way system in place and we will still be practicing social distancing where possible. We remain cashless and will only be accepting card payments.

Our staff will be continuing to wear face coverings for their own safety and the safety of our visitors. We would advise and request that all of our visitors who are able to wear a face covering continue to do so, especially during our encounters.

We thank you for your understanding, our animals can't wait to meet you soon!

Booking is not required.

We aim to reopen our doors to our wonderful visitors again on the Saturday 22nd May! We can't wait to welcome you back to see how our amazing residents have been getting on. We've been working hard to get the Jungle ready for our visitors to return, and we are looking forward to starting the transition back to normal! Please read the below for all the information you need to plan your visit!

We will be open at present from 10am until 4pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and 11am - 4pm Sunday. Closed Wednesday

We will be running a reduced Animal Encounters Timetable, where you can get a little closer and learn about some of our amazing residents. Unfortunately due to Covid we are still unable to let visitors handle our animals.

For the moment, we will not be using a booking system and admission will be on a first come first served basis.
We will also be continuing to take Card Payments ONLY to protect our staff.

Please remember, until the government advises otherwise, we are still in a Covid Crisis and we must continue to keep to the restrictions to protect our staff and visitors. This means visitor numbers will be strictly managed and a one way system in place to allow social distancing between groups. Please ensure you remain 2m from staff and other visitors during your visit.
Please also ensure you use hand sanitiser provided regularly and wash your hands regularly throughout your visit. We will still be requiring all visitors to wear a face mask or covering at all times whilst on the premises. The rule of 6 still applies indoors, which means we can only admit groups of 6 or smaller (including children), or two households.
We are optimistic that if we all stick to the rules together, we can all get back to normal in no time, so please continue to exercise kindness and patience with our staff while we get through the remainder of restrictions!

Please note, we are still taking the safety of our staff and visitors seriously, therefore visitors believed to be ignoring or flaunting covid safety rules will not be admitted or may be asked to leave the premises.

11/ 04/ 2021 -

With lockdown easing going ahead as planned, the majority of Hornsea Freeport will be reopening from the Monday 12th of April.
Despite the reopening of many Zoos being included in this latest stage of easing, indoor areas are are still required to be closed and as a completely indoor attraction we will unfortunately therefore remain closed untill the 17th of May at the earliest.
Further updates regarding our planned reopening will be given on this page in the coming weeks.
Thank you for your continued support, we look forward to seeing you all again in the not too distant future!

In line with scientific and government guidance and legislation:

- Visitors are advised not to travel into or out of an area if it has been categorised as a very high alert level area (TIER3).

- East Yorkshire is currently under Tier 2 (High) restrictions meaning that all visitor groups must now only consist of members of one household (living under one roof) and must not mix with other groups.

- All visitors over the age of 11 to wear a face mask or covering during their visit.

- Visitors must scan the NHS Covid-19 app QR code on entry or provide contact details to staff to facillitate Test and Trace.

We have a one way system in place around the shop and Jungle Trail and social distancing of Two Meters guidelines in place.

Please adhere to these. If you are found to be breaking any of the above you may be refused entry or asked to leave the premises.

In addition:

- We will be accepting CARD PAYMENTS ONLY. Please use contactless where possible.
-During busy periods, entrance times may be staggered to ensure social distancing, and there may be a short wait before you are able to enter the Jungle Trail.
-We have additional hand sanitising stations around the premises. Please use these at regular intervals during your visit.

-Please DO NOT touch any animals or enclosures during your visit.
- Our Encounters will be running slightly differently to usual, with socially distant, contact free talks taking place through the day.
-We are unfortunately unable to allow any visitors to handle any animals at present. As such we have REDUCED our entrance price by £1 per person.

-Please ensure children are closely supervised throughout your visit to ensure they are also adhering to the safety guidelines in place.

-For the moment, we are unable to resume our popular experience days, but hope to start booking these in as soon as possible. For those who have already purchased Experiences with us, the expiry date will be extended for the same amount of time as we have been unable to run them. We will be in contact with those who have purchased Experiences with us to take bookings as soon as we can.

These measures will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Lastly, please be patient with us during these unprecedented times, keep smiling and #bekind!

The Government is set to announce that on Monday 15th June Zoos can reopen within England! which is fantastic news ?
Unfortunately this will only apply to outdoor facilities and as Bugtopia is an "Indoor Attraction," we will be reqiured to stay closed for the foreseeable future.

We have battled through so far, but the sad truth is that we are starting to struggle. Our visitors are our sole source of income, and we haven't taken any money in donations since we had to close 11 weeks ago. During this time we have been continuing to provide top notch care to all our animals and pay our overheads, but this means we are quickly running out of funds. The news that we are still unable to open is very worrying, and we need your help.

We have set up a fundraising page (Click here to Donate), anything you can spare would be gratefully received.
We know times are hard for everyone at the moment, so if you can't donate, please consider giving this post a share. Every little really will help us!

We hate to ask, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Thank you for all your support, we hope we can see you soon!
