Beach Clean
Thousands of marine animals worldwide have been affected by plastic pollution, including sea
turtles, seabirds, and marine mammals. Therefore, Beach clean-ups are vital to mitigate the problem
caused by ocean debris and the danger that plastic pollution poses to marine life in this habitat.
Being located on the coast, we are in a ideal location to assist by conducting our own beach cleaning
programme.
Therefore from January 2023, Bugtopia Hornsea Zoo Staff have conducted monthly
beach cleaning sessions along a stretch of local coastline.
Many beach cleaning programmes are already in place along the immediate local coastline within
and around Hornsea. We have therefore concluded conducting a clean at the less accessible area of
Skipsea would be beneficial.
A survey of the types of litter will be taken and made public and available to organisations that may make use of it.
