Please be aware that by entering Bugtopia Hornsea Zoo, you are entering the living environment of our animals. Our anmials share these spaces with visitors, and consequently strict biosecurity measures are essential to reduce the risk of introducing or spreading disease and to protect the health and welfare of our animals.

These measures are particularly important during the ongoing Avian Flu risk and must be followed by all visitors without exception.

All visitors are required to adequately disinfect their footwear on entry using the foot dip provided. 

Where possible, we strongly recommend leaving pushchairs and other wheeled items outside the premises. This will help to speed up admission and, importantly, reduces the number of potentially contaminated surfaces being brought into areas occupied by our animals.

Pushchairs, mobility aids and other wheeled items that do enter the premises must also be thoroughly disinfected. Please alert a member of staff on arrival so that these can be thoroughly cleaned with disinfectant before entry.

Disinfection must be repeated before every re-entry.

We also recommend wearing suitable footwear when visiting. Sandals, flip-flops, Crocs and expensive footwear such as Air Jordans, Jimmy Choos and similar should be avoided... there are no exceptions, staff will mointor and ensure disinfecting is completed correctly!

Excessively muddy/ soiled footwear, pushchairs or other wheeled items may not be possible to disinfect effectively and, in these circumstances, entry may be refused.

If Avian Flu is detected within 10km

In the event of an Avian Flu outbreak within 10km of our location, all visitors will be required to provide contact details for contact tracing purposes. These details will be securely retained and only passed to the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) if required in connection with an outbreak at our facility.

These biosecurity measures are a requirement of entry. Entry will not be permitted unless all applicable measures have been completed.
